Vision
All students who promote from Sousa MS will be prepared to succeed in any high school of their choice as leaders in the quest for social justice. We develop intellectually curious scholars who are articulate communicators, critical thinkers, Ward 7 ambassadors, and contributing community members.
Mission
Our students develop positive habits that build physical and mental health. In challenging academic and social settings, they demonstrate perseverance, ethics, and character in the pursuit of excellence. Our school community unites family members, students, and staff as partners in learning.
Philosophy
We believe that children are our highest priority. All children can learn when we have high expectations.
The school faculty and staff will be dedicated to the students and to individual professional growth and development. The administration sets the tone for the entire school by exhibiting leadership, employing and supporting best practices, and modeling all values of this philosophy. Parents and the community must be also involved in student learning.
An inviting school climate translates into a positive learning environment. Curricular and co-curricular activities must be designed to achieve a positive climate and to lead all stakeholders to feel a sense of belonging to the school.
Student academic achievement occurs through mutual respect and sensitivity among all stakeholders, including students, parents, community members, teachers. We recognize that each child has different intelligences and learning styles, and will build on that child’s strengths and abilities.
Together, we seek to:
★ Offer discovery experiences that stimulate creative thought, problem-solving, and higher-level thinking skills.
★ Provide a challenging, integrated Common Core-aligned curriculum in which each student can learn to their full capabilities.
★ Help each student set high standards and strive for excellence.
★ Foster the self-confidence and esteem that will support constant and never-ending learning and improvement.
