Comprehensive School Plan

At Sousa Middle School, our mission is to ensure our students develop positive habits that build physical and mental health. In challenging academic and social settings, they demonstrate perseverance, ethics, and character in the pursuit of excellence. Our school community unites family members, students, and staff as partners in learning. In School Year 2017-2018, Sousa Middle School’s leaders and staff are focused on four big areas:
  • Social Emotional Learning: To increase student satisfaction to 75 percent, we will promote student engagement in learning and ensure a safe and welcoming school environment.
  • Literacy: To increase the percentage of students who meet or exceed reading proficiency to 30 percent, we will implement curriculum-aligned lesson planning, small literacy groups in classrooms, and Saturday school.
  • Math: To ensure students with special education (SPED) needs who are below grade level will demonstrate at least one year of growth on the math assessment, we will implement a co-planning strategy for SPED and core subject teachers to increase ELA and math performance. We will also implement math boot camps.
  • Extra Support for Students: To ensure that at least 50 percent of students who are off-track will be on track to pass by the end of the school year, we will utilize data to develop appropriate, monitored intervention plans for off-track students.
